The FMR Jazz Workshop Biggish Band will be ending off a successful year on a high note (literally!) this Sunday 14 December, at one of the Western Cape's top venues, the Oude Libertas Amphitheatre in Stellenbosch.

Known as the "theatre in the winelands" it is sheltered by graceful trees, not only in the surrounding gardens, but also on the stage - imparting a magical air to music, theatre and dance performances. The auditorium seats 430 theatre goers and forms a quarter circle almost touching the stage, ensuring excellent acoustics and a unique intimacy with the music. You're also encouraged to bring a picnic basket and have your supper on the beautiful lawn surrounding the theatre before the concert starts.

For this gig, certainly a highlight of the year, we've included some guests in the line-up, including the composer of our theme tune Stywepap & Bredie, the one and only David Ledbetter on that sexy Oude Libertas grand piano (back from 2 years musical exile in Dubai and Oman), one of Cape Town's most sought after drummers, Mike Horne on drums, and one of our old favourites, David Poole on tenor sax.

We'll be performing one long set including some of our original tunes by Ledbetter, Mertyn Barrow, Douglas Armstrong, Jannie 'Hanepoot' van Tonder, and some of our arrangements of lesser-known South African standards by Hugh Masekela, Zakes Nkosi, Chris McGregor and Dollar Brand.

Tickets are only R35 or R15 if you remain on the lawn. Book per telephone at 021-809 7380 or come to the Oude Libertas Box Office, weekdays between 09:00 and 17:00, Saturdays from 09:00 to 13:00 and always one hour prior to performances. Ample free, secure parking available. More info at www.oudelibertas.co.za

To get there from Cape Town, take the N1 from Cape Town in the direction of Paarl and the Stellenbosch/Klipheuwel/Tygerberg Zoo turn off (R304) heading towards Stellenbosch. • Sat 31 January, Hout Bay Amphitheatre

  • Sun 8 February, Helderberg Nature Reserve, Somerset West
