10 January 2004, Jazzathon, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town
The FMR Jazz Workshop Biggish Band starts off the new year with a performance at the Cape Town Jazzathon. We've been invited back after opening the festival last year, and will be playing on Saturday afternoon 10 January at 15h00. The Jazzathon is one of Cape Town's premiere annual jazz events and this year will also feature artists like Letta Mbulu, Judith Sephuma, Jimmy Dludlu, Allou April, McCoy Mrubata and Sipho Gumede. More info at www.jazzathon.co.za.
The JWBB slot will see guest performances by David Ledbetter on piano and Mike Horne on drums, in a set including some of our original tunes by Ledbetter, Mertyn Barrow, Douglas Armstrong, Jannie 'Hanepoot' van Tonder, and some of our arrangements of lesser-known South African standards by Hugh Masekela, Zakes Nkosi, Chris McGregor and Dollar Brand.
There are already a number of other gigs in the pipeline for the JWBB this year:
