It seems the JWBB plays at the Masque Theatre to present new music ... Sunday's concert will see the first performance of Jannie Hanepoot's arrangement for the Biggish Band of an Errol Dyers tune called Langery. Jannie did some gigs with Errol last year and couldn't help having to put pen to paper and introduce Errol's true Cape style of music to the band's repertoire.

On Sunday we'll be featuring George Werner as guest artist on the piano. Tickets for the gig are R40 and can be booked by calling 788 1898. The concert will start at 19h00.

Then on Wednesday 23 February the JWBB will be performing at this year's first Notes4Notes concert presented by Camps Bay Primary, Dunkeld Road, Camps Bay.

Several of these concerts are presented every year by the school in aid of the Notes4Notes Music Scholarship Fund, a registered trust fund set up for the sole purpose of furthering musical education for those unable to afford regular music fees at the school. The fund has been in operation for three years and so far eight children are benefiting from the program. These concerts are very well supported and has in the past featured acts like Steve Newman, Jimmy Dludlu, Breakfast Included and the UCT Big Band. This concert will also feature Breakfast Included's David Poole on Tenor Sax.

Wednesday's concert will start at 19h30, tickets are available from Debbie at 438 1503, and cost R30 for adults and R10 for kids. A cash bar and snacks are available. Come enjoy an intimate evening of South African Big Band music!

Both concerts will see a selection of our trademark repertoire of original Big Band Jazz, composed for us by Mertyn Barrow, David Ledbetter, Douglas Armstrong and Jannie 'Hanepoot' van Tonder, as well as some new arrangements of South African classics by Zakes Nkosi, Hugh Masekela, Dollar Brand, Chris McGregor, Errol Dyers, etc
